Hydrochloric acid in pure quality (HCl) is a chemical compound that is an aqueous solution of gaseous hydrogen chloride.
It has strong corrosive properties, a strong, pungent odour and is colourless to light yellow. Pure quality hydrochloric acid is produced by direct synthesis of the elements by burning chlorine in hydrogen and subsequently absorbing the hydrogen chloride into water. The product is sold as a 37% to 38% solution.
