Dodecylphenol is a dense, viscous, light yellow liquid with a characteristic phenolic odour.
It is a mixture of isomers containing mainly para-dodecylphenol. Dodecylphenol is poorly soluble in water and very readily soluble in aliphatic alcohols, ketones, esters and aliphatic hydrocarbons.
