Rostabil TPP is an aryl phosphite in the form of a clear liquid with a characteristic mild odour.
It is used as an intermediate in many chemical syntheses. Phosphorus in the third oxidation state gives it good reducing abilities used in the deoxygenation process, e.g. sulfoxides to sulfides or aliphatic epoxides to alkenes. The mildly nucleophilic nature of the phosphite is used in the conversion of alcohols to alkyl halides.
