Technical silicon chloride is a product with a purity above 97%.
It is used as a raw material/intermediate in the production of organofunctional silanes and other silicon-based substances. Organofunctional derivatives of silane are used in the CASE industry, glass fiber production, as a coupling agent or in the rubber industry. Silicon chloride is used as a precursor for the preparation of a range of organofunctional silanes, e.g. vinyltrimethoxysilane, aminopropyltrimethoxysilane, chloropropyltrimethoxysilane and glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane. These compounds are widely used in the preparation of resins or complex composites for use in the rubber industry, the CASE industry, and foundry to modify surface properties by giving them specific characteristics. It is a basic raw material for the production of octadecyltrichlorosilane, perfluorooctyltrichlorosilane and perfluorodecyltrichlorosilane. These chlorosilanes form a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) on various substrates. They are mainly used to modify surfaces by giving them superhydrophobic properties. They are biocompatible polymers with low surface energy. They also exhibit anti-fouling properties with high wettability, which facilitates the release of various composites from the mold.
